Afro's and Roller Skates... Good times.

Hey ladies and gentleman, time to get far-out and funky because it’s 70’s time again! This time around I chose some more well known booty-shakin’ tracks that you, yes YOU used to wear out those old steel needles on.

Ah, but no wear to worry about… hell, no track changing to worry about for that matter! I have taken 16 wonderful Diss-ko songs and adjusted them just so; now they all play one right after the other in a flawless progression. Yep, it’s like one long song consisting of all the other songs that you like. Pretty sweet deal huh?

Plus it has a totally awesome title… it’s called: “If It Feels Good, Do it”.

Solid, Jackson.

It was painstakingly assembled by yours truly… you can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay… Ha, I’m just kidding. You can actually refer to me as either DJ Maru or Killerjunglist. Or “the” Killerjunglist. That last one is your call.

Let’s take a look over hear, where the song list is:

(Please note: Song title is first, followed by artist)

  1. Boogie Oogie Oogie – A Taste of Honey
  2. I Love the Nightlife (Disco ‘round) – Alicia Bridges
  3. Sensitivity (Extended album version) – The Shapeshifters
  4. Shootin’ the Grease – Jessie Graham Plus 3
  5. Ring my Bell – Anita Ward
  6. September – Earth, Wind and Fire
  7. Everybody Dance – Chic
  8. Let’s Go ‘Round Again – Average White Band
  9. It’s a Disco Night (Rock Don’t Stop) – Isley Brothers
  10.  Lay All Your Love on Me – ABBA
  11. Rasputin – Boney M
  12. You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) – Sylvester
  13.  Dance to the Music – Sly and the Family Stone
  14.  Can You Feel the Force – The Real Thing
  15. I Feel Love – Donna Summer
  16. Can You Feel It – The Jacksons

Stinger: Just a rumor

Total running time is approximately 40 minutes. While that may not be enough to keep your discothèque packed all night long, it is a pretty perfect length for your lunch break or commute to work.

So come on, man. Break out that dusty old El Dorado (yes, the one that leaks oil and needs a new starter), roll down the windows and crank the tunes. If you don’t have the ladies all over you in a matter of minutes, then I owe you a coke*.

Been a long time since I broke some beats

Hey people! Look at this… it’s a brand new mix. Yup, quite fresh, this one. Good smell, nice weight, firm, bouncy beat.

I like to call this one It Goes in Cycles. It’s a tad eclectic, jumping around genres and eras as it damn well sees fit. Pfft, kids these days.

Anyways I suggest you download it.

“But why? Why should I waste my precious bandwidth on this file of yours?”

Huh? Oh. Wait, what? This is hardly what I would call a waste my friend! Why, with this mix you can do all kinds of things!  Listen to it when your blue for a quick pick-me-up! Show it to your friends and they’ll think you’re the bee’s knees! Listen to it at work and get fired! Wait, no don’t do that… Show it to that special someone and you’ll be all kissy face in no time! Play it for your kids to make them shut up! Put it on your desktop so your dorm mates will think you’re a real hipster because you listen to a DJ no one has ever heard of!

Yesserie, not much this miracle mix can’t do, I tells ya.

For more information read the above paragraphs again, or read some of the other entries in this blog. That oughtta keep you busy for a while.

Fun Facts:

  • 11 of these tracks are direct vinyl rips, one a free internet download, five ripped from a Cds and three I have no idea where they came from but they are somehow on my computer.
  • Most of this mix was made during my free time at work in Japan.
  • This mix was originally just an attempt to re-create the On The Floor At The Boutique (Fatboy Slim) version of  “Because I Got It Like That”. The stutter in the middle (“Never work a day in my life…”) was shamelessly ripped off from that album. The stutter at the end (“You see Afrika was the one they loved“) was shamelessly made by me.
  • I wanted to include the song “Dooms Day of Rap” (Hijack the Terrorist Group) in this one but the software I am using simply could not map the beats to it, even when I placed each beat marker by hand. It was replaced by “Prepare for the Battle“.
  • ŸI finished the mix at 11:00 am, but I have no internet at work, so I had to wait until 6:00pm, when I got home, to upload the thing. It drove me nuts.
  • Since this is the first mix I have uploaded in a while, despite the fact I have a ton just sitting around waiting to be uploaded, I will get on more entries right away. Keep on eye on this spot!

I call this one "Where are you Going with This?" It's a blend of songs from the 60's, 70's 80's and 90's. It's a very experimental mix, but the overall effect is a good one. Here are the songs that I used:
(Song name - Artist)
1. Doomsday of Rap - Hijack the Terrorist Group
2. Micheal Jackson - Fatboy Slim
3. Dirty Beatniks - Latinhead
4. Body Mechanic - Quadrant Six
5. Breakers Revenge 93 - Zeb-Rok-Ski
6. Doo Doo Brown - 2 Hyped Brothers and a Dog
7. Born to Get Down - Muscle Shoals Horns
8. Night of the Wolf - Al Foster Band
9. Electricity - Anon
10. Bongo Rock - Micheal Viner's Incredible Bongo Band
11. Me and Baby Brother - War
12. Soul Makossa - Manu Dibango
13. Rock on Ya'll - African Islam
14. Don't Stop the Rock - Freestyle
15. Play at Your Own Risk - Planet Patrol
16. Lords of Cardboard - DJ Format and King Aroe
17. Tango Hustle - The Kay Gees
18. No Parking on the Dancefloor - Midnight Star
19. Funky Nassau - The Beginning Of The End
20. Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye) - Steam

This is the link:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?omgtjrxzjso

It's about 45 minutes long, so it's the perfect thing to listen to on, say, your drive to work. It's also pretty Break-dancey so it could be used for your next session. Whatever the case, enjoy and spread the love.

Fun facts? Not too many with this one. There isn't much tying these tracks together save that most sounded good when played one after the other.
I can think of only a few points:

"Doomsday of Rap" Samples "Apache", but so much rap samples "Apache" it's hardly worth mentioning.

"Na Na Hey Hey"was performed by Steam, but when the song was recorded the band didn't actually exist yet. Steam was the name that they eventually used, but the original recording was released under the pseudonym Steam, which at the time was just a filler name.

Next up? Maybe more disco, maybe more Hip Hop, maybe more Jungle. You'll just have to wait and see!

20. Bhangra - Asian Dub Foundation

21. B-Boy イズム (izumu) - Rhymester

Stinger: Have a Banana! - The Beatles live at the BBC

The idea behind this mix was two-fold. I wanted to make a strictly hip-hop mix (almost succeeded… Pick Me Up isn’t really hip hop per se) but halfway through making it I decided to challenge myself.

20 or more tracks, 40 or fewer minutes.

The actual mix runs 9 seconds over, but that is because I threw in a stinger at the end which runs for about 22seconds… the actual music ends at 39:47 putting me within my own criteria.

It was in retrospect that I realized how many songs I chose that prominently feature the word “funk”, so that’s where the mix gets its name.

Fun Fact: Despite The first three tracks are all hip hop groups headed up by non-black guys. Funkdoobiest is a Latino group, Young Black Teenagers (despite the name) are all white guys and House of Pain is, of course, lead by Whitey Ford (Everlast), an Irish dude.

"Watch Out Now" - Uses the familiar tune which was also used in the track "Jenny From the Block" by Jennifer Lopez. The Beatnuts sampled the track "Hi-Jack" by Enoch Light, but they got full permission to do so, while Jennifer Lopez('s producers) just used the exact Beatnuts version of the beat without asking or clearing persmission. The Beatnuts were mad enough to write a diss track about Lopez on a subsequent album and eventually did recieve royalties... but I find it hilarious that in "Watch Out Now" they use the line: "Taking my beats to make your crowd get up? I'm fed up..."

B-Boy Izumu is by a relativly unknown Japanese Hip Hop group called Rhymester who actually have some really good beats and lyrics (whether or not you can understand the Japanese). They consist of three MC's and remind me a lot of a Japanese Beastie Boys.

Next up: More messed up beats! Be there!
