Hey everybody, it's me, DJ Maru AKA KillerJunglist.
In this, my super brand new blog I will be posting all my music crap including mixes, mash-ups, original tracks and possibly more. I started posting my mixes on my old blog (www.mindsay.marukun.com) but that blog isn't about music, so I am starting this one in order to keep everything nice and neat.
In the next week or so I will start putting up the most recent mixes that I have made as well as some of my better practice sessions. I will also put up some tracks that I made in the past that I am proud of and some mash-ups that I made as well. I would also like to post links to other artists' tracks that I like, but I am currently making sure it is okay with them so that might take a little longer.
As this is my first blog entry, allow me to introduce myself.
I go by two DJ names, DJ Maru and KillerJunglist. My nickname in real life is Maru, but it turns out there are a bunch of DJs with that name already. KillerJunglist was coined by a friend of mine a while ago when I was spinning a Jungle set. And speaking of Jungle, My preferred styles of dance music are (in order):
1. Jungle/Drum and Bass
2. Battle/Old School/New Skool breaks
3. House (mostly UK Hard, but also Funky and Disco)
4. Old School Hip Hop
5. Unclassifiable (I like taking old rock and roll and such and mixing it... sort of like medleys).
I use software and turntables to mix. I am currently living in Japan (until November of this year) and far away from my turntables, so I have been making all my mixes on MixMeister; a simple but very useful (and inexpensive) piece of mixing software. My turntables are Numark TTXs and my mixer is a Denon DNX 100. I plan on getting a pair of CD mixers upon my return to America so I can include more songs into my live mixes.
My philosophy on DJing is simple: as long as it sounds good and/or moves the crowd you're doing it right. I don't care if you use two tape decks with no mixer, if you can keep the flow going then you are doing your job. I feel that creativity in DJing is what it's all about.
As an added bonus, I am willing to take mix requests. Here is how it works:
Leave a comment with your idea for a mix. You can give a specific playlist, some artists you like or just a genre with some song titles and, if I am inspired enough by it, I will take your requests and make a full length (30, 45 or 60 minute) mix out of them. I will post the mix on this blog and give inspirational credit (song credit too, if you happen to be an artist) to you. Mix requests will be considered by song availability (in the case of artists wanting their own music mixed by me please tell me where I can download a copy), time consideration and mixability (if you want a mix that goes from Elvis at 102 bpm to KMFDM at 165, I doubt it's gonna happen). I think it could be fun tho, so let's hear what you want to hear!
So that's my story. I will have my first mix posted within a few days, so stay tuned and start thinking of those requests!

Post Script - I am not posting a mix today because I plan on writing some trivia about the tracks I used in each mix first. I am also planning on making a podcast soon that works on the same idea; talking about the artists and songs used and then playing the mix in full.
